Auckland is the Portland, Oregon of the South, an uninspiring but downright liveable place where happiness can be made to be endless. Close to everything, a stone's throw from activity, it bustles without getting overexcited, it rebels without spilling over into crime and filth. It ages badly but keeps a natural charm that comes with its island location.
